The top 100 most dangerous websites for your PC enlisted

Internet security company Norton Symantec has come up with a list of Top 100 Dirtiest sites, which could infect your computer with malware.

Malware is a software that can damage or compromise a computer system without the owner's consent.

Natalie Connor, spokeswoman of the anti-virus company, said that even visiting any of the named websites could expose a computer to infection and put the personal information into the hands of unwanted people.

"What people don't realise is when you type in a website, you're bringing down information on a page and with it could be malware," News.com.au quoted her as saying.

The list was compiled with the help of global data collected on Norton Safe Web, a site that analysed websites' security risks.

The infected sites had on average 18,000 threats and 40 per cent of the sites had more than 20,000 threats, while 75 per cent of websites on the list were found to be spreading malware for over six months.

According to Connor, most websites in the list had adult content with unprintable names, suggesting they contained hardcore pornography.

Some others sites include those on ice skating, deer hunting, catering and legal services.

Hackers can apparently obtain personal information using keystroke-logging software from both PCs and Mac computers.he reps said that hackers are a force to reckon with as cyber crime is increasing rapidly.

She added: "The last thing we want to do is scare people, we want to educate them so they know how to protect themselves.

"It's not about the fame any more of creating viruses and getting in the media. They're making money."

Norton released a sample of the dirtiest websites:

Sehwag, Harbhajan, Rohit skip nets; cold war with media on

Three star cricketers, including vice captain Virender Sehwag, were conspicuous by their absence from the nets even as Team India's cold war with the media continued for the fourth day running today. No national cricketer came forward to speak to the huge press contingent at the Lady Bay Ground here after absence of Sehwag from the nets only added grist to the rumour mills.

Apart from Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma could not be spotted at the nets. Dozens of mediapersons -- from print, electronic and web -- had assembled in huge numbers to cover the practice session but were left frustrated when no representative of the defending champions made himself available to the press.

"It was optional and there was no definite assurance that a cricketer would be made available to the press," informed manager Anirudh Chowdhary. Since skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a show of strength in front of assembled media on the eve of the opening match against Bangladesh last Friday, only man-of-match Pragyan Ojha has spoken to media even though the presence of skipper is mandatory after a match, according to ICC guidelines to teams in this tournament.

Encyclopedia Battleshipica

One would be surprised if the book in the picture were not the biggest ever written on cricket, in terms of height and weight. The ‘monster’ weighs “21-and-half kilos” and needs a separate table for itself. When it was presented at Lord’s, John Arlott called it a “pocket battleship of a fleet”.

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who knew more about New Zealand cricket than the man holding the book, or much more in volume about cricket in general. Don Neely wrote Men In White, a comprehensive history of New Zealand cricket, played first-class cricket for Wellington and Auckland, led Wellington to the Plunkett Shield in his first year as captain without the services of John Reid, Bob Blair and Bruce Morrison, became a national selector, and is now the NZC president.

It took Don five years to write this book, juggling his business tours with writing, which involved research from world over. He doesn’t know how many words he wrote – and literally wrote, for he didn’t use a typewriter.

But he does remember the book has 1600 photographs, each of which is a story in itself. There are about 50 words to each caption, adding up to some 80,000 words just in photo descriptions. Within two weeks 1200 copies of the limited edition had been sold.

Don is the most prominent historian in the country. But he will be given a tough fight, when it comes to history, by his wife Paddianne, who is herself an archivist and has worked hard with him on many of his 30 books. Between them, Don and Paddianne are an encyclopedia of cricket history, delightful anecdotes, and refreshingly a present-day perspective.

Ask them about Eric Tindill, the oldest surviving Test cricketer, and they will tell you how Tindill – at 98 years and 109 days - is a few months short – 215 days to be precice – of becoming the longest lived Test cricketer. Don also remembers that the last two or three oldest surviving cricketers have been from New Zealand. The last was Don Cleverly. “There must be something in our water,” he says. But it’s not just numbers that matter to the Neelies.

Paddianne remembers a call she got from a lady enquiring about the whereabouts of Sid Ward, who is now 102. They tracked him down and discovered he had played with Tindill. A special reunion was arranged.

These two men had played their cricket and rugby (Tindill played both cricket and rugby Tests, and also umpired in both) together in the 1930s, and met again after an average lifespan gone by. The correspondent on the phone, by the way, was Ward’s niece.

Paddianne and Don’s meeting also had something to do with cricket. Don used to play with Dave Crowe, who was Paddianne’s cousin. And Dave was Martin and Jeff’s father and Russell Crowe’s uncle. When the Neelies’ son was getting married, Crowe senior tried to scare the bride. “You need to have cricketing blood to get into this family. We have the Crowes, the Neelies. What do you have?”

Not realising that this was a joke, she went to her father and told him of the predicament. The father told her to ask Crowe if WG Grace would do. And this was no joke, because her great grandmother was a first cousin of WG’s and she didn’t even know of it. The marriage went on, and the Neelies’ granddaughter is named – well – Grace. Now that’s a cricketing family.

Soon you may have an 11-digit mobile number||||

With phone operators expected to run out of 10-digit mobile numbers soon, the Department of Telecom (DoT) is now considering an 11-digit numbering system.

'With so many telecom service providers and a growing customer base, the need for new numbers and their consequent shortage will be felt soon,' a senior telecom official, who did not want to be identified, told IANS Saturday.

India has reportedly added 10.81 million mobile subscribers in December 2008.

'The TEC (Telecom Engineering Centre, DoT's technical arm) has recommended the new numbering plan that has been forwarded to the government for the final decision,' the official said.

The telecom department had come up with a 30-year numbering plan in 2003 but the fast growth in the telecom subscriber base has forced the authority to relook into its policy and consider 11-digit numbering system.

'The infrastructure is ready and this should be implemented within two years,' the official said.

Telecom operators said the new policy would not cause any technical problems.

'With such a robust growth, we would require new (number) series very soon. There would be no technical issues as such but the customers may have to face some problems initially,' Aircel chief operating officer Gurdeep Singh told IANS.

Every telecom operator is allocated a series of mobile numbers on requirement basis - for six months or a year depending on the customer base it has.

'The change, however, will be in the software only and it will not take more than a month to upgrade the changes,' the telecom official said.

IPL permitted to seek new broadcast deal

The Bombay High Court has cleared the way for the BCCI to seek a new broadcast deal by rejecting a plea from Sony TV, which had challenged the Indian cricket board's decision to terminate its five-year deal to televise the IPL.

The BCCI has, meanwhile, signed a fresh broadcast rights deal worth a reported US$1.2 billion with World Sports Group (WSG), which in turn has been engaged in discussions with various broadcasters for a new IPL deal. It has been reported that Sony is among those who are now trying to negotiate a new deal with WSG and sources have indicated that ESPN-Star Sports (ESS) and NDTV, the New Delhi-based media organisation, are also in discussions to telecast the IPL.

It is unclear, though, if Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd, which held the IPL contract under the Sony umbrella, will approach the Supreme Court to appeal against Monday's decision.

Sony had sub-licensed the IPL's subcontinent broadcast rights last year from WSG, who had won an original ten-year bid for US$1.02 billion, but moved the court after receiving a notice of termination from the BCCI, which runs the IPL. The Indian board claimed that Sony had repeatedly violated the integrity of telecast by prematurely cutting to breaks and inserting commercials during a live match, replays and other on-field action.

The court placed a freeze on IPL signing another broadcast deal and in the meantime, attempts between Sony and the IPL to negotiate an out-of-court settlement failed after the broadcaster agreed to the Indian board's commercial terms but sought a "non-terminable contract".

IPL officials were unavailable for a reaction. Rohit Gupta, president of network sales at Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd said he could not discuss "anything at all" regarding the issue.

The IPL's relationship with Sony had turned rocky last month after the IPL lost out on a US$31.16 million deal because of a dispute between Sony and Big TV, a direct-to-home provider. Ties between the two dipped further after the subsequent resignation of Kunal Dasgupta, the then Sony CEO, who was known to be close to Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman. Sony is also understood to have been keen on renegotiating the financial terms of its contract with the IPL and had concerns about the tournament's revised dates and some of the venues that were being considered.
